The Neilston Homes offices
The team behind Neilston Homes, Neilston Group and their management, has over 70 years of experience in the building industry.
Neilston Group is a family owned business best known for its homes in Hobsonville Point in northwest Auckland.
Tony Houston, Neilston’s managing director, owned the company that built the first house in Hobsonville Point and this was where he helped develop Axis affordable terraced homes.
Financial Director at Neilston, Robyn Neil partners with Tony in life as well as in business.
Allan Shanahan of Shanahan Architects and Tony Houston have been friends since they were six years old, and business associates for over two decades. Allan’s team is responsible for the design of the Neilston homes – as well as more than 400 homes in Hobsonville Point.
Allan brings more than 30 years of on-the-job wisdom as an architect of standalone houses, terraced homes and apartments for group builders and individual owners.
It was Neilston’s Financial Director, Robyn Neil, whose father founded Neil Housing company. During the 1950s and 60s, Ron Neil and his company built an astonishing number of quality, comfortable, affordable homes in Auckland – one thousand each year. Ron’s mission was to provide quality homes to first-home buyers, and it’s the same ethos behind the Neilston Group and Neilston Homes.
“We’ve taken the practical thinking Ron had in the ‘60s and applied it to a new style of living” says Tony. “Neilston homes are a similar size to the houses Ron built – three-bedrooms, one bathroom – because that still works, but we’ve added a second toilet and increased the indoor-outdoor flow.
Right from the start, our philosophy has been to emulate Robyn’s father, bringing quality, affordable homes to first-home buyers.”
